last day of stencil screen printing

what a day....I woke up around 6 am and found lil misfit a bit warm...my heart sank :(...she's down with fever...arghghghghgh but no other symptoms, most probably the 5 days fever virus again :'(!  So I was late to our last class, but luckily, it hasn't started yet.

We learned swiss repeat today and it was so very interesting and definitely something I will definitely try in the future :)...but I'll most probably using autoCAD instead of cutting and pasting :p...my hands are sore from drawing, copying, cutting all those d*#n little flowers and triangles, and pressing the squeegee up and down.  I decided not to make the circle on the flowers...now that it's done, I kinda regret it...ow well...at least this time around, my pattern is not as horrifying as my first attempt last week :D.

I definitely love the class and would recommend anyone interested in stencil screen printing to sign up :)...It was so fun and didn't even realize we were 1 hour behind schedule by the time we were done.  10.30am -5.00pm felt like an hour (literally).  I wanted to take more pictures but was too occupied to do anything else.  Lara was an excellent teacher and a lovely person.  Thank you for the insight and lesson...I had fun :)

stencil screen printing class

yep...I'm currently in the wonderful city of Melbourne :) with the girls and hubby...hence the lack of posting :p...I took the screen printing class by harvest textile, it is a 2 days course, conducted every Saturdays (last week's and this week's).  We left Jakarta on a Friday night and arrived Melbourne one hour delayed on Saturday morning, so I was about 1.5 hours late to class.  It was fun, though I was hoping there will be "emulsion" type screen printing.  I love love love their studio...how I wish I have a place like that :).  It makes screen printing so much easier...big long tables, lots of screen frames, abundance fabric paints (you can mix colors to your heart's content), big screen cleaning area and drying rack.  I wish I have a studio like this :).  My screened fabric didn't turn out well, though...I misunderstood the whole concept and tried being smart...my design involved in precise printing on top of the previous layer...it was a total disaster :)...hahahahahaha....ow wellllll....Lara, the teacher was really nice and would give wonderful suggestions to everyone :).

happy kimono

I got this fabric by Hamburger Liebe for Farbenmix and turned it into a kimono PJ...I guess it's not girly enough, Big Misfit refuses to wear this often :(.  I think it's cute!!! I love the print and the fabric :( too bad my loved one does not share the same taste as I do.  I think I might have better luck with little misfit :) (fingers crossed)

on vacation

We're on 10 days vacation...I'll update places we go when the internet allows :)...for now, check out whipup.net  for my guest feature on the 23rd September! :).  Today we went to Texworld and Indigo by Premiere Vision.  It was very interesting....I love Indigo...I wish I could take pictures...there were SOOO many beautiful textile designs, I felt like buying everything and wishing those designs are printed on fabrics :'(.  I love paper&cloth, ID Textile, helene pimbert, Adelaide d'Andigne, and Holly Bradley-Gill's woven cloth design was sooooo beautiful...there were a few other ones but I didn't get to stop and ask for their cards...You see, I kinda feel awful going there without any intentions of buying the designs...one day, I hope :)...for now, I've just feasted my hungry eyes and heart :) and worn my legs out...I miss my masseuse...Au Revoir ;).

more for my sister

My lovely sister has been pestering me to make her a book pouch with a pencil case...so I used this ikat RTBM silk...it is hand woven silk...very delicate but the color is absolutely beautiful...it has a little shine to it and the yellow is absolutely brilliant...and it wasn't too hard to sew either.  I love how it turned out.  I lined it with stripe fabric...she loves stripes.  I'll miss you much when you go back to the States tonight :(...don't know when we'll see each other again.

kridaya...

The weekend before last weekend, My Mom and I decided to go to the last day of Kridaya fair.  I didn't buy too much :)...but I did buy my favorite Tenun Imam, and I'd like to say sorry to the lovely owners...I messed up your booth by unfolding those beautiful fabrics you displayed :p.  I also bought a blue dress for Misfit, from Danar Hadi...I love the color and style and most importantly, the price was good :D.  One of my favorite store had a stall open too, I forgot what it's called, but they sell their batiks using natural color dyes...and hence, their batiks are bluish-indigo in color....I wanted to buy a shirt for my Mister, but I think they've sold a lot and not much left :(...The Batik horse statue was quite impressive...It's not pretty or anything, the eyes looked scary but I like the Batik patchwork idea on its body :).

I love the print on this brown hand drawn batik...I saw another lovely pink swan too...but I didn't take a picture of that one...this is quite pricey...about 420 USD each :(...and I absolutely adore that patchwork/leftover fabrics jacket!

heritage exhibition

Last Friday, my friend and I went to this fabric show at Dharmawangsa Hotel.  The vendors were all from Palembang, South Sumatera...where my mom is from.  There were some beautiful fabrics but stupid me didn't bring any cash :D...it's okay...next time when I go to Palembang for some excellent food, I'll stop by some of those shops :).  I love the antique silver-gold plated jewelries, they're not too expensive but I'm not sure how long would the gold stay...

Look at this cute antique child's bolero..I think it's made from songket fabric...it's so beautiful and fragile :).  Songket is a handwoven Sumatera's fabric, usually adorned with gold thread.

Look at these gold plated jewelries...I love them...I wish they're real gold and not too expensive :p one can hope, right?? :)

On the exhibition side, this is a typical wedding decoration from Sumatera's area.  Very lavish, lots of golds and a lot of good foods :)

On display at the exhibition...some old songket, they're sooooo beautiful and luxurious :).  I love the colors.  I wish they're mine...oooo I wish :)

treasures found at cipadu

I got myself a sheer rabbity fabric ( I love the print), a japanese print canvas-like material, finally found fabric thread-dots cotton (don't really what you'd call the material), yellow and blue linens, pale pink stiff mix cotton, canvas waffle like material, and this off white textured material...I love them all...and they're very...very...cheap

tutorial: reusable fabric gift wrap

I thought of making this very fast and useful fabric gift wrap instead of using my usual string pouch :).  It is similar to my pacifier pouch without the velcro.

You can click the image below for a full view :), or, if you have a wide screen, you'll be able to see it all

my patchwork batik blanket

here's a peak at my new treasure I found at the batik show :).  I think the batiks are vintage and the materials are nice and cool...no batting...perfect for Jakarta's scorching hot weather :).  I saw a similar thing in Japan at the liberty fabric store and it was so costly :D (it is after all from Indonesia hehehe)

my creative space

I have a bunch of things I need to get done...here's one of them...a clutch bag for my cousin, Mimi...I still need to figure out the model of the clutch bag...any ideas??

I also need to make these into screen printing...I have 9 other patterns I am yet to make as well.  Still waiting for the factory to make the wooden frame, then my Dad will transfer the drawings to the mesh (I'm amazed my Dad is a multi talented man...so proud)

Then...I have to show you my other handwoven fabric I bought at the Batik fair...pretty, isn't it?
