my patchwork batik blanket

here's a peak at my new treasure I found at the batik show :).  I think the batiks are vintage and the materials are nice and cool...no batting...perfect for Jakarta's scorching hot weather :).  I saw a similar thing in Japan at the liberty fabric store and it was so costly :D (it is after all from Indonesia hehehe)

my new fave tool

I loooove my new loop turner!!! They're made of sturdy steel fabric, not some flimsy steel :).  They're a beauty if you need to turn narrow ends :).  Got this from Japan last time, by cotton boll called quick turn...Don't think they have a website but here is their fax and phone number
Ph: (03) 5687-8511
Fax: (03) 5687-1108
They come in a few sizes...mine are coded 17303 and 17304

tokyo diary: day 2 - 2010 tokyo quilt show

I don't think I have the energy to write anything...so I'm just putting up pictures...I just want to share my little experience about entering Tokyo dome...It was a LOOOOONGGGG queue(the queue in the pictures were actually very close to the entrance...I started waaaaaaaaayyy back), It backlogged between door 10 and 11 and the entrance is door 22, if I'm not mistaken....that's probably half of Tokyo dome! But it only took 20 or so minutes to enter...very impressed :)...overall, it was an interesting experience...very interesting... :)

bazaar find

This morning I went to a little indonesian craft bazaar. I finally saw Amesh of dreamesh and she is so cute in person and I also bought one of her cute batik combination pillow :) so cute. Amesh was also featured in a local community newspaper (one full page!!!)...Congrats, Mesh! You've done well :)..Here are some pics of Amesh's cute little stand

As I was browsing...I found this beautiful quilt from favorite pieces, which is based in Bandung, west java. I LOVE quilts...quilting was what started me sewing...since I was too lazy to quilt by hand, I bought my first sewing machine, in hope I'll use it to quilt one day :p one day ooo one day....I love its workmanship and most of all its cotton batting!!!! YES!!! cotton batting! Most of the quilts in Indonesia are made of polyster filling, which makes the quilt rather hot and uncomfortable for Indonesia's hot and humid weather. The bears are applique work as well as the flowers :) which makes me appreciate this quilt so very much :). This is for little misfit and I hope she enjoys it.

christmas gifts: travel quilts

I have two very lucky misfits....our family friend, a very talented lady, Bu Dien made these traveling quilts for my misfits. When you fold them, they look like lap pillows and when you open them...voila...blankets :).....I love these very inventive quilts :). They would surely be our family's little treasures :). Thank you, Tante! The misfits looove them :).

far far away

Today, we went to 2 fabric/patchwork shops! One is called Patchwork on Central Park, which is a lovely small shop...they have quite an extensive collection, including beautiful japanese knits and I saw some Nani Iro's fabrics as well...nevertheless, I was proud of myself for not buying anything! Since I will be going to Japan next year...Here are some pics of the place. I have a thing with small cozy little shop :)

Lucky I have a wonderful husband who would drove me all the way to Bayswater (it's far...believe me) without complaints :D....The shop is INSIDE a tile showroom with its store sign half wrecked outside...We've missed this place and good thing I called in justttt in time before they closed at 4:30pm!!! The long drive was well worth the time :) I finally got my book A stitch in Time by Rosalie Quinlan and found an interesting book called A Boy's Story by Anni Downs. But what made me sooooo extremely happy was the new (currently HARD TO FIND) PVC fabrics by Rosalie Quinlan....I bought 3 PVC garden fabrics and the red one is her cotton garden fabric...Found some bias tape as well :)...I'm... H A P P Y...thank you, dear...
