last day of stencil screen printing

what a day....I woke up around 6 am and found lil misfit a bit warm...my heart sank :(...she's down with fever...arghghghghgh but no other symptoms, most probably the 5 days fever virus again :'(!  So I was late to our last class, but luckily, it hasn't started yet.

We learned swiss repeat today and it was so very interesting and definitely something I will definitely try in the future :)...but I'll most probably using autoCAD instead of cutting and pasting :p...my hands are sore from drawing, copying, cutting all those d*#n little flowers and triangles, and pressing the squeegee up and down.  I decided not to make the circle on the flowers...now that it's done, I kinda regret it...ow well...at least this time around, my pattern is not as horrifying as my first attempt last week :D.

I definitely love the class and would recommend anyone interested in stencil screen printing to sign up :)...It was so fun and didn't even realize we were 1 hour behind schedule by the time we were done.  10.30am -5.00pm felt like an hour (literally).  I wanted to take more pictures but was too occupied to do anything else.  Lara was an excellent teacher and a lovely person.  Thank you for the insight and lesson...I had fun :)

stencil screen printing class

yep...I'm currently in the wonderful city of Melbourne :) with the girls and hubby...hence the lack of posting :p...I took the screen printing class by harvest textile, it is a 2 days course, conducted every Saturdays (last week's and this week's).  We left Jakarta on a Friday night and arrived Melbourne one hour delayed on Saturday morning, so I was about 1.5 hours late to class.  It was fun, though I was hoping there will be "emulsion" type screen printing.  I love love love their studio...how I wish I have a place like that :).  It makes screen printing so much easier...big long tables, lots of screen frames, abundance fabric paints (you can mix colors to your heart's content), big screen cleaning area and drying rack.  I wish I have a studio like this :).  My screened fabric didn't turn out well, though...I misunderstood the whole concept and tried being smart...my design involved in precise printing on top of the previous layer...it was a total disaster :)...hahahahahaha....ow wellllll....Lara, the teacher was really nice and would give wonderful suggestions to everyone :).

happy happy spoonfulzine and a giveaway too

It's finally out!! Awhile ago, the talented Anthea from Spoonfulzine emailed me to participate on her 3rd spoonfulzine edition.  She requested a Galeon themed handmade things.  So, I've decided to go ahead and make a gocco prints :).  It is a beautiful little magazine and quoting from her blog:

"Spoonful is a short and inspiring little publication which, in light of our insanely busy lives, can be finished by the end of a train ride. It's quick to consume, beautifully soft, & after reading will genuinely make you smile."

And...why not turn it into a giveaway as well :).  Leave your comment and email address and tell me what theme I should do next...for both sewing and printing :).  The competition is open worldwide.  I will draw a winner on the 6th of December and I'll choose 2 winners.  Each winner will win 10 sets of this gocco card.  Good Luck!

a wonderful morning surprise

Awhile ago, a friend asked me to teach her how to sew...So, one fine weekend, she came over to my apartment with her protruding pregnant belly, eager to learn.  I must say, she's a natural :)  She was able to sew straight lines immediately and her bibs as well as her bag, turned out nicely :).  So, I lent her my spare sewing machine, so she can fiddle around with it :).  End of this week, she will be leaving to Perth for her delivery and won't be back till the end of this year :(.

This morning, her driver dropped off the sewing machine at my apartment and it came with a wonderful surprise with it.  A beautiful card pack with www.liaspace.com on the bottom and an absolutely ADORABLE dachshund dog on top, wearing a crystal collar :) I don't think I'll ever use the cards, though...they're too pretty and precious to me :).  If you want to order some for yourself, you can definitely do so, but it might take some time, because she'll be in Perth :).  You can order through adorama and personalize your cards :).  Oooooo how do I get to be so lucky :)....happiness...

will you have tea with me?

I wanted to make 2 cups and a pot...but ended up with this :)...I love tea...it started when I had a lovely afternoon tea at tea and sympathy before I came home for good.  I used to have midnight tea with my (now) husband...complete with cookies and sandwiches ahahhahahahaha...but Jakarta's weather is proven to be too hot and humid for a nice cuppa hot tea :)...I'd love to go to a nice traditional tea salon :)

tutorial: burning image to your screen (for screen printing)

EUREKA!!!! IT FINALLY WORKED!!!!!! O...MY...GOD...I'm so very excited :)...this is what I did to make it work...

1. In a dimly lit room, if possible put the light source as far away from you as possible, cover your screen with emulsifier, then you let the screen dry (this was the missing link!!!! we put the image straight away when the screen was still wet with emulsifier- BIG BIG MISTAKE!!!)

2. Put a piece of black cloth/felt underneath the frame, then put the frame on top of the black cloth, put your image then cover with glass...after that, you just expose the whole thing using 100w bulbs, place it around 24cm away from your frame for 15 minutes

3.  Quickly rinse using high pressure hose and voila...ARGHGHGHGHHG it's perfect :)

failure after failure

:'( my attempt to burn image onto the screen had failed...one attempt after another.  After many attempts, I've found out that I was supposed to put the chemical in a dark room (one where you would develop pictures)...so, I shall try again another time :'(

trial 1: failure

hahahahahhaa I must say I'm having so much fun with my dad!  On the chemical, it says to leave the screen exposed to the sun for 2 hours...so we did just that....and it was a total failure...upon further inquiry, we're suppose to expose it for about 30 seconds to 1 minute....I'm speechless...so here I am...writing this, while I'm waiting for the result of my second trial :D...wish me luck

Finally...the screen printing frames are done and the mesh have been tacked in place :).  All that's left to do is burning the designs into the screen :)...at times like this...I'm glad I have a furniture factory hahahaha

gocco supplies

thank you, Fei!!! For bringing these to Jakarta for me :D...and sorry...I didn't realize the package was so big...I should've brought these home myself... :D...but then...I'd be overweight and wouldn't be able to buy those books (oooooo the lowdown of a low cost airfare)

my creative space

I have a bunch of things I need to get done...here's one of them...a clutch bag for my cousin, Mimi...I still need to figure out the model of the clutch bag...any ideas??

I also need to make these into screen printing...I have 9 other patterns I am yet to make as well.  Still waiting for the factory to make the wooden frame, then my Dad will transfer the drawings to the mesh (I'm amazed my Dad is a multi talented man...so proud)

Then...I have to show you my other handwoven fabric I bought at the Batik fair...pretty, isn't it?
